ABOUT US
Mahautsav is being presented by Harpreet Sethi’s Grand Victorian Convention Centre and the Radisson Plaza Mississauga, Toronto Airport. Mahautsav is a community vision, being organized by business, institutional and cultural leaders within the South Asian Community. Although targeting the South Asian Community, Mahautsav endeavours to engage individuals from all cultures. ABOUT THE FESTIVAL In the era when India was a land of princely states and kingdoms, the kingdom used to organize Annual Grand Festival celebrations called Mahautsav. The festival was held over several days and encompassed awards, competitions, entertainment and festivities. People living in the kingdom participated in Mahautsav which transformed music, arts and entertainment into one nonstop carnival. Now in the 21st century, we are endeavoring to rejuvenate community celebrations amidst diversity. Celebrating the festival of lights The festival of lights, often referred to as Diwali or Deepavali, is a significant cultural festival and is celebrated among widespread communities originating out of the South Asian sub-continent. These communities celebrate Diwali to signify the victory of good over evil. The tradition of lighting ‘diyas’ (oil lamps) serves as a promise to turn darkness into light and spreads the message of peace. Light is symbolic of all that is positive in this world.
